LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Hundreds of job seekers stood outside the new Holmes Smokehouse facility in hopes of finding employment at the new Lufkin company.

“We believe this will be a win-win opportunity for Holmes Smokehouse but for Lufkin and the community,” said Rodney Roth, president of Holmes Smokehouse.

Saturday was the first day of a two-day job fair at Holmes Smokehouse.

President Rodney Roth says the company is still putting the finishing touches on the building, but hopes to fill 25 to 50 positions to start.

Once things are in place, they will create 100 jobs in the first year, 150 in the second, and up to 200 in the third.

“These jobs will be created here, what better way to start something than with a good old fashioned barbecue,” said Roth.

The numbers that city officials say will continue to grow Lufkin’s economy.

“Jobs will come to Lufkin and it will create the environment for jobs,” said Bob Brown, Mayor of Lufkin.

They will take the Lufkin brand wherever they go, they will be a great ambassador for Lufkin. “

The company is hiring a variety of positions, from production to manager, and Lufkin applicants are happy to have more work opportunities.

“It’s great because it’s an opportunity to give people jobs that don’t have them,” said Jonathan Bagley, job seeker

Roth says the company has another facility in Burton, Texas, but says Lufkin’s location will be the company’s flagship office.

“It’s in the middle of our customer base and we think it’s a wonderful opportunity,” said Roth.

And as the grilling season draws closer, Roth says they hope everything will be up and running in 60 to 90 days.
